First Meeting with Gopi's Story
Reading · read-aloud
This is the full first encounter with the story — pace the read-aloud so the comic twist ending lands clearly. Encourage students to visualise each scene as it is read, particularly Gopi searching through dry leaves and bushes.
0–5The teacher introduces the chapter title and asks students what they think the story could be about based on the title alone. Students share predictions briefly.
5–25The teacher reads the story aloud expressively from beginning to end (pp.11–14), pausing at key moments — Gopi finding the ball, the friends' reactions, and the ball flying into the scooter basket — to sustain attention and model fluent reading.
25–35The teacher invites students to retell key moments in their own words: what Gopi found, who he met at the playground, and what happened in the end. This is oral and unprompted — no written work.
35–40The teacher asks one closing question: 'What do you think made everyone laugh at the very end?' Students respond briefly in pairs before sharing with the class.
Learning outcome. Student infers character motivation and story events using a prose narrative as the vehicle.

What each wrong option reveals
- A Suggests the student missed Gopi's honest reasoning and replaced it with a practical motive.
- B Shows the student has confused social fear with Gopi's actual motivation of honesty.
- D Reveals a literal reading that invents parental instruction not present in the story.
