Walking Through the Wheat Journey — Picture by Picture
Reading · picture-reading
Students at this stage often name only the most obvious foreground element; encourage them to look at the background too — the scarecrow in Picture 1 and the labelled flour bags in Picture 2 are easy to miss. The goal here is unhurried, guided observation, not correct answers at speed.
0–8Teacher opens the textbook to pages 68–69 and walks students through all five pictures one by one, pointing to details — the harvested field, the loaded truck, the flour mill, the grocery store, the kitchen, the dining table — and eliciting one-word observations from the class.
8–20Picture reading (pp.68–69): teacher leads the class through the four written questions, pointing to the relevant picture for each; students look carefully and give spoken answers before the class discusses together.
20–32Pairs examine Picture 1 and Picture 2 closely and whisper two details to each other that they notice; a few pairs share with the class and the teacher adds any missed detail from the picture story.
32–40Quick whole-class recall: teacher points to each picture in random order and students call out the main action happening in it, consolidating the five-step journey in their minds.
Learning outcome. Student observes, sequences and interprets visual events using a picture narrative as the vehicle.
Look at the pictures on Textbook pages 68–69. Put these five stages of the wheat journey in the correct order by writing the numbers 1 to 5.
