Chapter 8 · Period 1 of 11 · 40 min
First Meeting with the Toy Shop
Reading · read-aloud
The story gives voice to toys' emotions, so a lively read-aloud with varied tones for different toy characters draws children into the imaginative world quickly. Children unfamiliar with Chennapatna toys or Kondapalli dancing dolls may need a one-sentence naming note as those names come up in the text.
0–5The teacher invites children to think about toys they love and briefly share one favourite toy aloud. This warms up listening and prediction before the story begins.
5–22Teacher reads the story 'Talking Toys' aloud expressively from Textbook pp. 44–49, pausing at each new customer to let children absorb which toys are hoping to be chosen. Voices for the toy kitten, talking doll, and toy elephant may be used to bring the text alive.
22–36Teacher continues reading pp. 50–55 aloud, covering the arrival of the final group of children and the cheerful ending. Children listen and track the sequence of buyers and toys.
36–40A brief whole-class pause: teacher asks 'Which toy made you most curious and why?' — children respond with a word or short phrase, no full sentences needed yet.
